Dundee Day Book Sale

Are you ready to clean out your book case and start to feel a little of Marie Kondo’s “joy of tidying up?” Our Dundee Day Book Sale is back! Start saving those gently used books (or new if you have one that you’ve just never read and have decided that you won’t read!) that you would like to pass on to another reader! The used book sale is on Dundee Day, August 20, 2022, and we would welcome your donations of books. The proceeds from the book sale go to benefit the Sorensen Branch of the Omaha Public Library and Community Center.

Donated books can be dropped off at Mary Schleifer's house at 417 S Happy Hollow Blvd, on the northeast corner of Happy Hollow and Howard St. Please leave boxes of books at the back door at the end of the driveway. The driveway is on Howard St (look for the 417 sign), and there's room to turn your car around at the end of the driveway. Dundee Bank will also accept books, at 5015 Underwood, during their business hours beginning on May 2nd. Please put your books in boxes so that they can be easily stored and transported.

The book sale can also use volunteers to work at the tables on Dundee Day, August 20th. We need help setting up beginning at 7 a.m. The Book Sale will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you would be willing to work helping with the book sale, please email Mary Schleifer at msiatros@gmail.com. Volunteers usually work in 2-3 hour shifts. You can pick a time that works for you.

Questions? Call or text Mary at 864-498-4420.

November Neighborhood Meeting

This quarterly neighborhood meeting will be IN PERSON (Yowza!) at Brownell Talbot. Masks are required.

Guests: ADU’s and Dundee Candle Co.
Location: Brownell Talbot School, 400 N. Happy Hollow Blvd.
Details: Parking available in the Happy Hollow lot, and enter building from this lot.

Volunteers from Mode Shift Omaha’s Missing Middle Campaign will present about ADUs, also known as granny flats, secondary suites, etc., which are currently allowed in the Transit Oriented Development designation. They will provide an update on how the recent changes to the zoning code have impacted the construction of ADUs locally, discuss the benefits of these structures, and show examples both locally and nationally of successful adoption.

Additionally, just in time for the holidays, we’ll get a brief introduction to a new Dundee business that opened last year during the pandemic. Dundee Candle Co. owner Jeanne Nielsen will tell us about her custom candle bar and fragrance studio.

We’re grateful to Brownell Talbot School for offering us the use of their building for DMPA meeting space. Enter the school from the Happy Hollow lot, and we’ll have people and signs directing you to the dining room. Brownell Talbot requires that everyone wear a mask while in the building, regardless of vaccination status.

DMPA Neighborhood Meeting via Zoom & Facebook Live

We will have two guests joining us for our first DMPA Neighborhood meeting of 2021! To keep all neighbors safe, we will continue with an online format for meetings until further notice.

During this quarterly meeting, The League of Women Voters will give an educational presentation on Redistricting 2021. The League is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, grassroots organization advocating for voters’ role in democracy. The process of redrawing lines of voting districts only happens every 10 years. The presentation will provide an overview of what redistricting is, how it works specifically in Nebraska, and how to get involved to support transparent and fair redistricting. Learn how you can protect every Nebraskan’s right to fair voting districts. Attend the meeting on September 13th to hear about this very important process.

Our second guests includes Nicole Wheeler with Mode Shift Omaha and Dundee Book Company. More details from Nicole soon!.

Lights On Dundee

It's that time of year! Grab your masks and join us for LIGHTS ON DUNDEE 2020, Thursday, December 3rd from 4 to 8pm.

As with all things in 2020, Lights on Dundee will look differently this year, but we are so excited to see our neighbors and support our local small businesses as we enter the holiday season. In the past years, we've put together a fun, interactive evening for families, with crafts and other fun activities.

This year, with social distancing in mind, we are focusing on how we can help others less fortunate. We are collecting toys, diapers, canned goods, and other nonperishable items. Check the list below to see where to bring your goods and what you can receive in return! The time has also been extended to encourage safe spacing of guests. Masks are encouraged for the entire evening. If you don't feel comfortable going inside a business, just browse the windows of area businesses and check out photos of the gingerbread house entries. As always, the event is free.

There will be live street music by Kevin Lloyd and many merchants with special holiday activities in their locations with COVID -19 safety precautions kept in mind.

Please find our event page on Facebook for the most recent updates as we will closely be following Douglas County Health guidelines as it gets closer to the event date. If the event gets cancelled, we will still have the Gingerbread House Decorating contest as it is something you do at home on your own and simply send a picture in.

Wear a mask, stay safe, we will see you soon!

2020

In-person events and large gatherings have been canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Although we love seeing your wonderful faces, we believe we have a responsibility to keep the community safe. We hope you are taking the time to enjoy the slower pace of life. Call your family and friends often. Read more books. Put away your phone and allow yourself to be bored. There is a silver lining all around us.

Please be safe and responsible!
